    An aqueous binding composition is provided comprised of a polyanhydride based polymer, which polyanhydride based polymer has been purified through the use of an azeotrope. The resulting binder is effective, particularly for binding glass fibers, yet substantially odor free. A fibrous material is provided that is coated with a water-resistant cured binder formed in accordance with the process of the present invention wherein adjoining fibers are bound at cross-over points. Such bound fibrous material is free of a phenol-formaldehyde resin and substantially free of odor. It has been found that by removing purities such as cumene and acetophenone from a polyanhydride binder, e.g., a styrene maleic anhydride based polymer based binder, an effective binder for glass fiber is obtained while also avoiding an odor problem.

    Surface defects in a cured, molded thermoset fiberglass reinforced (FRP) part can be repaired by filling the defect or void with an excess of a thermosetting conductive repair material, applying pressure and heat sufficient to cure said material without substantial shrinkage of said material, removing the pressure, cooling and finishing said parts to the original surface contour. The repair material includes a polyurethane/acrylate, an epoxy/acrylate or an unsaturated polyester oligomer, three ethylenically unsaturated components copolymerizable with the oligomer, one of which is an acrylate and another of which has a -CO- group and a -NHz, -NH- and/or -OH group, release agents, an initiator, an accelerator, a low profile additive and filler materials, one of which is conductive.

    A fiber glass reinforced plastic can be in-mold coated utilizing a free radical peroxide initiated thermosetting composition of at least one polymerizable epoxy based oligomer having at least two acrylate groups, at least one copolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomer, at least one copolymerizable monoethylenically unsaturated compound having a -CO- group and a -NH₂, -NH- and/or -OH group, and other conventional components such as at least one zinc salt of a fatty acid, at least one accelerator, at least one filler, and the like. The thermosetting compositions of the present invention uti­lize a very low or nil amount of an adhesion agent such as a polyvinyl acetate and unexpectedly achieves better flow and good coverage at reduced coating weights.
