Anionic derivatives of pentafluoro-λ6-sulfanyl (fluorosulfonyl) acetic acid esters

New ester salts [R3NH]+[F5SC(SO2F)C(O)OR']- where R=H, CH3CH2 and R'=CH3, (CH3)2CH have been prepared from corresponding esters and amines. The sodium salt Na[F5SC(SO2F)C(O)OCH(CH3)2] was used to prepare the following alpha-substituted derivatives: SF5CX(SO2F)C(O)OCH(CH3)2, X=Br, Cl. The crystal structure of [(C2H5)3NH]+[F5SC(SO2F)C(O)OCH3]- was determined and is monoclinic: P2(1)/n; a = 8.758(2) angstrom, b = 9.645(2) angstrom and c = 19.167(4) angstrom; beta = 97.92(3)-degrees; V = 1603.6 angstrom3; Z = 4.
The reaction of F4S = activated CCF2OSO2 with ROH (R = CH3, CH(CH3)2, C(CH3)3), ClX (X = F, OCF3) and CsOCF3 was studied as a means for preparing novel sulfonyl fluorides or sultones. The new beta-fluoro sultones CH3OSF4 activated CHCF2OSO2 and F5S activated C(Cl)CF2OSO2 were prepared and characterized.
