  • Hydraulic cementitious composition with improved bleeding resistance

    A method of making a grout composition which reduces the amount of bleed water from grout used in bonded post-tensioned concrete applications is provided. The method includes forming the grout composition by combining copolymers with other materials into a hydraulic cementitious composition. The copolymers are formed from structural components a) to c) and optionally d) which are mono-unsaturated compounds, with a generally linear macromolecular structure. By reducing the amount of bleed water in bonded post-tensioned concrete applications the grout composition provides protection from corrosion for the steel members, including stranded tendons and solid bars. The reduction in the amount of bleed water is achieved without significantly increasing the viscosity of the grout mixture thereby allowing good pumpability, placement, and maintenance of other properties such as resistance to volume change, long working time and acceptable strength development.

    The invention relates to water-soluble or water-swellable copolymers which contain sulfo groups and which are based on (meth)acrylamide-alkylsulfonic acids and (meth)acrylamide or N-vinyl compounds, and to their use as additives for aqueous construction materials systems or for water-based paint and coating systems. The inventive copolymers also represent water retention agents which are highly effective, even when used in relatively small quantities, and which are highly compatible in construction material and paint systems of this type.

    The invention relates to a mixture composition having dispersing properties, containing copolymers based on unsaturated mono or dicarboxylic acid derivatives and oxyalkylene ethers as component I and water-soluble copolymers and terpolymers containing sulfo groups having an average molecular weight of 50 000-20 000 000 g/mol as component II. By combining both components, which can be respectively characterized by four different structural units, it is possible to obtain mixture compositions which can, more particularly, be used as dispersing agents for organic and/or inorganic pigments and fillers, in addition to known applications in the field of structural chemistry. In the field of structural chemistry, the mixture compositions are suitable for use on account of the dispersing properties thereof, particularly in ceramic systems and in water-based painting and coating systems. Independently of the dispersing effect thereof, the described mixture compositions are also excellent solvents, wherein they can be used more particularly as casein substitutes, even in self-levelling gap-filling materials and trowelling compounds by virtue of the stabilizing effect thereof. The inventive mixture composition combines known positive properties of components I and II and can be used in new fields of application, even in the non-structural chemistry field.

    A polymeric composition consisting of water-soluble or water-swellable copolymers containing sulfo groups and nonionic polysaccharide derivatives, such as methylcellulose (MC), hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC), hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC), methylhydroxyethylcellulose (MHEC), methylhydroxypropylcellulose (MHPC) and welan gum or diutan gum, and the use thereof as an additive in aqueous construction systems based on hydraulic binders, such as cement, lime, gypsum or anhydrite, is described. The composition can also be used in water-based paint and coating systems. The composition according to the invention exhibits a synergistic improvement of the properties and, when used in relatively small amounts, constitutes highly effective water retention agents in such construction and paint systems, which also achieve outstanding air pore stability and tack.
