Micellar Interpolyelectrolyte Complexes with a Compartmentalized Shell
摘要:
We investigate the formation of micellar interpolyelectrolyte complexes (IPECs) from multicompartment micelles (MCMs) of polybutadiene-block-poly(1-methyl-2-vinylpyridinium methylsulfate)-block-poly(methacrylic acid) (BVqMAA) triblock terpolymers and polycations of opposite charge. As cationic material, predominantly a polymer with a high charge density is used: quaternized poly(2-((2-(dimethylamino)ethyl)methylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PDAMAq), which carries two positive net charges per monomer unit. Upon IPEC formation at different charge stoichiometries, particles with a compartmentalized IPEC shell are formed. These rather unusual structures even form when both BVqMAA micelles and PDAMAq are mixed at high salinity, followed by dialysis, indicating that the structures formed are not kinetically trapped. Whereas the nature of the polycation seems to play a minor role, our studies suggest that the length of the PMAA corona is the key factor for the formation of a compartmentalized IPEC shell.
The present invention relates to cationic copolymers, a process for the production of these cationic copolymers and the use of these cationic copolymers as dispersants for geopolymer binder systems.
The present invention is based on the finding that these cationic copolymers where the cationic charge is due to the presence of certain cyclic and/or polycationic groups are stable towards Hoffmann elimination that would otherwise occur at very high pH values.
Moreover, the dispersing effect of cationic polymers can be further enhanced through the addition of polyvalent anions.

The invention contemplates a copolymer which is a graft or block copolymer useful to change wettability and surface characteristics of biological surfaces. Methods for use of these formulations and coatings to change wettability and sterically stabilize, and lubricate biological surfaces in a subject, for example, in the treatment of dry eye syndrome, and to prevent adherence of unwanted proteins, for example in the treatment of contact lens intolerance, are provided.
