Thermodecomposition Kinetics of Dy(III) Complex with Schiff Base Derived from Furfural and DL‐α‐Alanine

A new Schiff base complex of the composition [Dy(C8H8NO3)(NO3)-(H2O)](NO3H2O)-H-. (C8H8NO3 = furfurylidenealanine) has been synthesized. and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV and molar conductance. The thermodecomposition kinetics of the complex were investigated under non-isothermal condition. TG and DTG curves indicate that the complex decomposes in four steps: The kinetics of steps (1) and (3) were calculated by a combination of Achar differential and Coats-Redfern integral methods. The kinetic equations may be. expressed as: step (1): dalpha/dt=A(.)e-(E/RT.)3/2(1 - alpha)(2/3)[1 -(1 - alpha)(1/3)](-1); step (3): dalpha/dt = A(.)e(-E/RT.)3/2(1 - alpha)(4/3)[1/(1 - alpha)(1/3) - 1](-1).
