Iodofluorination of alkenes was achieved with N-iodosuccinimide, potassium hydrogendifluoride, and 1 M hydrofluoric acid using tetrabutylammonium fluoride as a phase-transfer catalyst. The active fluorinating reagent was shown to be tetrabutylammonium dihydrogentrifluoride by preparing the salt in a different way and by effecting the same transformation under anhydrous conditions. A New Approach to the Synthesis of Vicinal Iodoperoxyalkanes by the Reaction of Alkenes with Iodine and Hydroperoxides
A convenient procedure was developed for the synthesis of vicinal iodoperoxyalkanes by the reaction of alkenes with iodine and hydroperoxides. The best results were achieved with the use of excess iodine. The replacement of one iodine atom by hydroperoxides in vicinal diiodoalkanes was discovered. A suggestion was made about the reaction mechanism.
