    This invention provides oil soluble sulfhydryl compound scavengers which are salt compositions of the formula: Mn+(R—CO2−)x(OH)n−x wherein M is a metal ion whose sulfide salt is less than 0.1% soluble in water, n is 2 or 3, x is an integer from 1 to n, and R a hydrocarbyl radical containing from about 4 to about 19 carbon atoms, or mixture of these compositions. A method is also provided to control odors produced by sulfhydryl compounds wherein the he said sulfhydryl compounds are contacted with the metal salts described above.

    Disclosed is a catalyst composition for polyurethane resin production which contains (A) triethylenediamine, (B) a specific polyisocyanurating catalyst and/or (C) a specific highly temperature-sensitive catalyst. By using this catalyst composition, a polyurethane resin can be molded with good curability, while suppressing initial reactivity. Consequently, a polyurethane resin having excellent moldability and fluidity can be produced with high productivity by using the catalyst composition. The thus-obtained polyurethane resin is suitably applicable to shoe soles. The component (B) is selected from the group consisting of alkali metal salts of carboxylic acids, quaternary ammonium compounds expressed as R 1 R 2 R 3 R 4 N + ,X − , N,N,N′-trimethylaminoethylethanolamine, and 2,4,6-tris(dimethylaminomethyl)phenol, while the component (C) is selected from the group consisting of triazole salts and benzotriazole salts of 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undecene-7 or 1,5-diazabicyclo[4.3.0]nonene-5. The mixing ratio of the component (B) and/or the component (C) to the component (A) is from 2% by weight to 60% by weight.

    A supported silver catalyst for the oxidation of ethylene to ethylene oxide with molecular oxygen is made by impregnating a support with a hydrocarbon solution of a silver salt of a neo-acid having 7 or more carbon atoms, the solution being substantially free of water and said neo-acid. Preferably, the hydrocarbon solvent is toluene, xylene, ethyl benzene, cyclohexane, or cumene. The impregnated support is dried and the silver is activated under conditions chosen to provide the optimum selectivity to ethylene oxide. Thereafter, the activated silver catalyst may be impregnated with an alkali metal solution sufficient to increase selectivity of the silver catalyst above its alkali-free state. The amount of alkali metal on the finished catalyst is the optimum for the particular support selected and preferably will be about 1-6 x 10-3 gew/kg of catalyst. The catalyst may also include additional promoters, such as the alkaline earth metals, preferably barium.
