diazoketones bearing remote benzyl or allyl ethers was subjected to a variety of conditions for catalytic diazodecomposition and cyclic oxonium ylide formation as a possible method for polycyclic ethersynthesis. Allyl ethers 19, 25 and 29 underwent efficient conversion to the corresponding bis(pyran) and tris(pyran) products in the presence of Cu(tfacac)2, while benzyl ether 15 was converted to bicyclic products

In contrast to results with Rh-2(OAc)(4), good yields of ylide-derived [1,2]-shift (or in some cases [1,4]-shift) products were obtained upon treatment of amino diazo ketone substrates 3b,c and alkoxy diazo ketone substrates 5b,c with soluble Cu(II) catalysts.
