    A membrane anchor for an ion-selective elec­trode may be formed by intersolubilizing an ion-selec­tive membrane lying above a sensing pad with a region of thermoplastic material laterally disposed around the membrane. A first layer of electrically insulating thermoset material lies beneath the thermoplastic ma­terial and in intimate contact with an electrically insulating susbstrate. A second layer of exposed ther­moset material lies above the thermoplastic material and contacts the first layer of thermoset material around the entire lateral perimeter of the thermoset mater­ial. The membrane anchor may be usefully employed with an ion-selective electrode having an electrically insulating substrate with a substantially planar surface and having non-metallic means for sensing a potential affixed to the surface beneath an ion-sensitive mem­brane.

    It is aimed at providing an NBR composition, which composition is substantially free of containment of an insolubilized substance-generating causative substance so as to prevent generation of an insolubilized substance due to extraction by a fuel while which composition is excellent in ozone resistance, ejectability from kneader, and the like, and which composition realizes a first compression set and a second compression set which are both 46% or less. The present invention provides an NBR composition comprising a polymer obtained by mixing an acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR) with polyvinyl chloride (PVC); wherein the NBR composition is obtained without blending an insolubilized substance-generating causative substance, or, in case of blending, by blending an insolubilized substance-generating causative substance at an upper limit of 0.15 parts by weight or less, into 100 parts by weight of the polymer having a PVC content of 15.70 to 17.50wt%.

    Coated substrates include a coating and a substrate is selected from the group consisting of paper, fabric, thread and yarn. The coating comprises a biodegradable polyhydroxyalkanoate copolymer, wherein the biodegradable polyhydroxyalkanoate copolymer comprises a first randomly repeating monomer unit having the structure: 1 wherein R 1 is H or a C 1-2 alkyl, and n is 1 or 2; and a second randomly repeating monomer unit having the structure: 2 wherein R 2 is a C 3-19 alkyl or a C 3-19 alkenyl; and wherein at least 50% of the randomly repeating monomer units have the structure of the first randomly repeating monomer unit.

    A method of disposing of a biodegradable plastic comprises the step of exposing the biodegradable plastic to a hot alkaline solution. The biodegradable plastic is a polyhydroxyalkanoate copolymer comprising two randomly repeating monomer units wherein the first randomly repeating monomer unit has the structure: 1 wherein R 1 is H or a C 1-2 alkyl, and n is 1 or 2; and the second randomly repeating monomer unit has the structure: 2 wherein R 2 is a C 3-19 alkyl or a C 3-19 alkenyl. At least 50% of the randomly repeating monomer units have the structure of the first randomly repeating monomer unit.
