A bulky tris(trisilyl)methyl ligand incorporating a donor sulfur atom: some (Me3Si)2(PhSMe2Si)CSnMe2X compounds

Reaction of (Me(3)Si)(2)(PhSMe(2)Si)CCl with BuLi at low temperature gave the organolithium reagent (Me(3)Si)(2)(PhSMe(2)Si)CLi, which was treated with Me(3)SnCl to give (Me(3)Si)(2)(PhSMe(2)Si)CSnMe(3). Reaction of the latter with a one or two molar proportion of iodine gave the monoiodide (Me(3)Si)(2)(PhSMe(2)Si)CSnMe(2)I and the diiodide (Me(3)Si)(2)(IMe(2)Si)CSnMe(2)I respectively. The corresponding reaction with even a one molar proportion of bromine gave mainly the dibromide (Me(3)Si)(2)(BrMe(2)Si)CSnMe(2)Br. Treatment of the monoiodide with an excess of AgCN in CDCl3 gave (Me(3)Si)(2)(PhSMe(2)Si)CSnMe(2)CN, but similar treatment with AgBF4 gave mainly the difluoride(Me(3)Si)(2)(FMe(2)Si)CSnMe(2)F. Hydrolysis of the diiodide gave the mixed diol (Me(3)Si)(2)(HOMe(2)Si)CSnMe(2)OH.
