  (R)-12-hydroxystearic acid hydrazides as gelators and gels generated therefrom are provided. A series of (R)-12-hydroxystearic acid hydrazides produce gels that are self-standing and self-healing. The (R)-12-hydroxystearic acid hydrazides are capable of exhibiting gelling properties in a wide variety of solvents. The gels have demonstrated good potential for use in drug release.

  Disclosed is a non-flowable anhydrous topical antiperspirant composition comprising a first portion and a second portion contiguous with the first portion. The first portion is semi-opaque to opaque and comprises a first hydrophobic carrier vehicle and a first gellant and has a particulate antiperspirant active suspended therein. The second portion is translucent to transparent and comprises a second hydrophobic carrier vehicle and a second gellant. Preferably, the second hydrophobic carrier vehicle has an average refractive index that approximately matches the refractive index of the second gellant. Ideally, for greater translucency the second portion will be substantially free of antiperspirant salt and/or other opacifying materials. Preferably, the first hydrophobic carrier vehicle also has an average refractive index that approximately matches the refractive index of the first gellant. Even more preferably, the second hydrophobic carrier vehicle and second gellant are comprised of substantially the same materials in substantially the same proportions as the first hydrophobic carrier vehicle and first gellant.

  Many cosmetic stick compositions containing a continuous phase of a water-immiscible cosmetic oil structured by a fibre-forming amido structurant and an active cosmetic ingredient either exhibit poor physical stability when formed, or cannot be made readily using conventional processes for making stick compositions. The problem can be ameliorated or overcome by the use of a combination of amido structurants comprising in class (i) an N-acylaminoacid amide in which the N-acyl substituent has the formula —CO—R X in which R X represents a branched C 6 to C 11 alkyl group in combination with a further amido structurant, (class (ii), including a polyamido-substituted cyclohexane, an amido derivative of di or tricarboxylic acids or an hydroxystearamide and particularly employing an N-acylaminoacid amide in which the N-acyl substituent contains a linear alkyl group, or a cyclodipeptide.
