Herein, we describe a synthetic approach for arylation that exploits the in situ formation and reaction of an unsymmetrical diaryliodonium salt. In this way, aryl iodides are used as reagents in a metal‐free reaction with phenols, and a trimethoxyphenyl (TMP) group is used as a “dummy” group to facilitate transfer of a wide range of aryl moieties. twelve aryl(phenyl)iodonium salts in a systematic chemoselectivitystudy. A new “anti‐ortho effect” has been identified in the arylation of malonates. Several “dummy groups” have been found that give complete chemoselectivity in the transfer of the phenyl moiety, irrespective of the nucleophile. The Heck-type arylation of alkenes was achieved in aqueous polyethylene glycol using a magnetically recoverable heterogenized palladium catalyst employing diaryliodonium salts under ambient conditions. The benign reaction medium and the stability of the catalyst are the salient features of this simple and facile protocol.
Additive-Free Pd-Catalysed C-2 Arylation of Tryptophan Derivatives with Diaryliodonium Salts

An efficient, mild and Pd-catalysed C-2 arylation of Fmoc-L-tryptophan with diaryliodoniumsalts has been developed, giving easy access to C-2 arylated tryptophan derivatives. This protocol tolerates a variety of functional groups and proceeds smoothly in high yields without any additives. In addition, the chemoseletive C–H arylation with unsymmetricalsalts is described.
