Divalent Lanthanide Metal Complexes of a Triazacyclononane-Functionalized Tetramethylcyclopentadienyl Ligand: X-ray Crystal Structures of [C5Me4SiMe2(iPr2-tacn)]LnI (Ln = Sm, Yb; tacn = 1,4-Diisopropyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane)

The synthesis and characterization of divalent lanthanide complexes of a triazacyclononane-functionalized tetramethylcyclopentadienyl ligand are described. Addition of LnI(2)(THF)(2) (Ln = Sm, Yb; THF = tetrahydrofuran) to [C5Me4SiMe2(Pr-i(2)-tacn)]K (tacn = 1,4-diisopropyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane) in THF yields the monomeric organolanthanides [C5Me4SiMe2(Pr-i(2)-tacn)]SmI (1) and [C5Me4SiMe2(Pr-i(2)-tacn)]YbI (2). The crystal structures of 1 and 2 have been determined.
