A catalytic tandemolefinmigration―aldol condensation process with allylic carbinols and aryl aldehydes was performed with 0.5 mol% of an amphiphilic polystyrene-poly(ethylene glycol) (PS-PEG) resin supported phosphine―ruthenium complex in water as a single reaction medium under heterogeneous conditions to give the corresponding aldols with syn selectivity. [GRAPHICS]An aldol-type and a Mannich-type reaction via the cross-coupling of aldehydes and imines with allylic alcohols catalyzed by RuCl2(PPh3)(3) was developed with ionic liquid as the solvent. The solvent/caltalyst system could be reused for at least five times with no loss of reactivity.
