Tri- or tetrasubstituted alpha-cyanoepoxides can be rapidly prepared from unactivated amines and malononitrile or methyl cyanoacetate when singlet oxygen, produced in a continuous-flow photoreactor, serves as an oxidant and in situ peroxide source.
