Syntheses, crystal structures and photoluminescence of two new pyrazinecarboxylate-based cadmium(II) coordination polymers

Two new cadmium(II) coordination polymers, [Cd(pzdc)(H2O)(2)](n) (1) and [Cd(pzdc)(2,2'-bipy)](n)center dot nH(2)O (2) (H(2)pzdc = pyrazine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid, 2,2'-bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine) have been prepared by assembly of Cd-II with H(2)pzdc ligand. Both the two complexes consist of two-dimensional architecture with a 4.8(2) topology. Intermolecular hydrogen-bond interactions lead complex 1 to a 3D supramolecular architecture, while complex 2 are extended into a 3D supramolecular network via the face-to-face pi-pi stacking interactions. Both of them show strong greenish-blue photoluminescence at room temperature. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
