  亚硝酸乙酯将 thujone 分解为 α-thujaoximino 羧酸 (1) 的酯 1a、1b。随着更多的亚硝酸乙酯，形成亚硝胺 N-氧化物，其分解为酮酯 2a 和 2b 以及一氧化二氮。用五氰基亚硝酰基高铁酸钠 (II) 得到 thujone 1，它作为第六个配体进入高铁酸盐络合物（根据 Duparc 和 Monnier 对 thujone 的颜色反应）。
