A palladium-catalyzedthree-component reaction of N-tosylhydrazone, norbornene and arylhalide has been demonstrated. In this reaction, an intermolecular Heck-type reaction occurs, which is followed by the alkyl palladium carbene migratory insertion process. This transformation provides an efficient and convenient methodology for the double functionalization of norbornene with good to excellent yields

An efficient stannylation process with Ntosylhydrazones or directly with carbonyl compounds has been developed. A series of functionalized benzyl-and alkyltributylstannanes can be synthesized in moderate to good yields under transition-metal-free conditions. Tandem transformations involving stannylation/Stille cross-coupling reaction have been carried out without purification of the benzyltributylstannane intermediates to afford a series of diarylmethane derivatives.

The first Pd(0)-catalyzed carbene insertion into Si-Si and Sn-Sn bonds has been realized by using N-tosylhydrazones as the carbene precursors. Geminal bis(silane) and geminal bis(stannane) derivatives were obtained in good to excellent yields under mild conditions. Migratory insertion of Pd carbene is supposed to be the key step for the reaction.
