AbstractThe leaf coumarins of two provenances in the Artemisia laciniata complex were analysed in detail. Apart from the lacarol series previously published for that species, the two provenances afforded six new coumarin derivatives: The Chinese sample was mainly characterised by 5‐dimethylallyloxy‐7,8‐dimethoxycoumarin derivatives (neoartains) together with 5.6‐dimethoxy‐7,8‐methylenedioxycoumarin. The significant new compounds of the Japanese species were the 7‐dimethylallyloxy‐8‐methoxycoumarins (lacinartins). The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods (with the exception of the absolute configuration of optically active compounds).
