The new piperideine alkaloid cicindeloine (3) was isolated from the pygidial glands of the beetles Stenus cicindeloides and Stenus solutus. The structure and absolute configuration of 3 were elucidated by NMR spectroscopy and asymmetric synthesis, respectively.
