Chiral Hydride and Dihydrogen Pincer-Type Complexes of Osmium

Reaction of [OsCl6](2-) with a pincer-type ligand, (S)-(Bu2PCH2CH)-P-t(NMe2)C3H6PBu2t, afforded a chiral square-pyramidal 16-electron carbene complex, OsCl(PGP) (1), PGP = [kappa(4)-(Bu2PCH2CH)-P-t(N(Me)CH=)CHC2H4PBu2t], in excellent yield. Reactions of 1 with hydrogen under different conditions resulted in the hydride and dihydrogen species OsH2Cl(PGP), [Os(H-2)(2)(PGP)](+), and OsH3(PGP), which have been characterized by a combination of spectroscopic and DFT computational techniques.

This communication reports the preparation of a novel trans-chelating diphosphine, 1,5-bis(di-tert-butylphosphino)-2-(S)-dimethylaminopentane, that undergoes tripleC-Hactivation in reaction with [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2 to give a chiral square-pyramidal 16-electron carbenecomplex of ruthenium.
