The reaction of dilithiated 1,1-diphenylallene with aryl ketones provides a convenient access to novel 1,1-bis(hydroxymethyl)allenes, which undergo Friedel–Crafts-type domino reactions upon treatment with TsOH.
Domino reactions between 1,1-dilithio-3,3-diphenylallene and nitriles resulted in the formation of products containing up to four nitrile molecules, representing the highest number to date of nitrile molecules involved in the formation of unambiguously characterized oligomers. Addition of nitriles to dilithiated allenes results in a unique domino cyclization which involves the so far highest number of nitrile molecules added to an organolithium reagent to form unambiguously characterized oligomers.
