Systematic fabrication of nanoparticle stabilizers can substantially modify the properties of prepared nanoparticles; here the synthesis of solubility adjustable nanoparticles is achieved by employing a family of polarity modulated stabilizers.
Disclosed are spirocyclic olefin polymers, methods of preparing spirocyclic olefin polymers, photoresist compositions including spirocyclic olefin resin binders and methods of forming relief images using such photoresist compositions.
Branched polymers are prepared from at least (A) at least one monomer having an electron donor moiety, (B) at least one monomer having an electron acceptor moiety, and (C) at least one multifunctional branching agent comprising a urea moiety and at least two N-vinyl groups. The branched polymers are least 20% (by weight) soluble in a solvent for which the corresponding polymer of equal molecular weight made without said multifunctional branching agent is at least 20% (by weight) soluble. Due in part to the wide range of chemistries and solubility and rheological properties, the branched polymers find application in personal care, pharmaceutical/nutritional, and performance chemicals compositions.

Hydrocarbon polymers such as ethylene copolymers may be reacted with unsaturated nitrogen-containing monomers or unsaturated carboxylic acids in the presence of a free radical catalyst such as a peroxide or azo free radical initiator and a chain stopping agent, e.g. a mercaptan to inhibit excessive cross-linking and branching. The copolymer grafted directly with the nitrogen-containing monomers may be utilized as an additive for oil and fuel compositions, particularly lubricating oil compositions as a V.I.-dispersant additive. The polymer reacted with carboxylic acid may be further reacted with amines, polyols, amino-alcohols, etc. to also form a V.L-dispersant additive.

A compatibilizer for stabilizing polymer blends of olefin copolymer and polymethacrylate oil additives is prepared by graft polymerizing hydrocarbon backbone polymer with alkyl methacrylate monomer, in the presence of a free radical initiator, at a temperature of from 60°C to 175°C. The compatibilizer so formed comprises a graft copolymer-containing solution having a polymer solids content of from 40 to 60 percent, a viscosity of at least 8 x 10-3M2S-1 at 100°C, and a weight percent conversion of alkyl methacrylate monomer to polymer of no less than 90%.
