Novel Ambiphilic Dichlorocarbenoid Equivalent in Alkene Cyclopropanation and Carbonyl Olefination

The Ti-Mg-dichloromethylene complexes derived from the oxidative addition of CCl4 to the Mg-TiCl4 bimetallic species serve as a novel class of ambiphilic dichlorocarbenoid equivalents. Not only is Ti-Mg-dichlorocarbenoid highly selective but also it seems highly reactive in both alkene cyclopropanations and carbonyl dichloromethylenations.

AbstractGem‐dihalocyclopropanes bearing a phenyl group and an additional group were nitrated by using nitric acid in a sulfuric acid matrix. The products from the nitration of aryl rings are major. The presence of a methyl group on the C(2) position of the cyclopropane ring leads to the isoxazoline from nitration at the C(1)‐position instead of that from nitration at the C(2)‐position.

Linear acetals have been synthesized by decompositiontrans- andcis-1,1-dichloro-2,3-diphenylcyclopropanes in the presence of aliphatic alcohols (ethanol and butan-1-ol). The reactivities of puretrans- andcis-stilbenes and styrene toward dichlorocarbene have been compared. The structure of the isolated compounds was determined by NMR and GC/MS.
