    A set of 15mer linear oligoDNA probes bearing a modified nucleoside conjugated with a polyamine/fluorescein/anthraquinone reporting moiety were synthesized. In a single-stranded form, the fluorescence generated by the excitation of fluorescein was efficiently quenched, while marked recovery of the fluorescence was observed when the probes formed duplexes with the fully complementary strand.     We synthesized new DNA intercalators, polyol- or cyclic sugar-linked anthraquinone derivatives. The binding affinity of these DNA intercalators is suggested to be controlled by the configuration and steric structure of sugar chain with the cyclic sugar chain interacting more strongly than the open-chain polyol unit with double stranded DNA.

    Polyamine-linked DNA-intercalators formed stable ternary complexes with Cu(II) and ds-DNA, some of which induced the chain cleavage of ds-DNA. The reactivity was related to the stereochemical features of the complexes.
