    This invention provides a method for synthesizing glycolide using methyl glycolate as a raw material, comprising two steps as illustrated in the following reaction formulas: wherein, the ROH represents a straight/branched chain alcohol, acid or ester containing 18-30 carbons and at least one hydroxyl group. The method for glycolide synthesis disclosed in the present invention manages to maintain a low viscosity within the reaction system by introducing a high-boiling alcohol into the reaction system to form a larger alkoxy glycolate exhibiting a significantly lower molecular weight compared to the typical glycolic acid oligomers utilized in the conventional process. Thus the challenges of coking and inefficient heat transfer encountered in traditional glycolide synthesis routes are effectively addressed.

    To provide a method for producing a compound that enhances dispersibility of a pigment of respective colors in a water-insoluble solvent, as well as a pigment dispersant, and a pigment composition, a pigment dispersion and a toner having a good tinting power. A method for producing a compound, including the following: (i): subjecting a polymerizable monomer forming a monomer unit represented by formula (1) to radical polymerization in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator and an iodine molecule to provide a polymer; and (ii) : binding a colorant to a terminal of a main chain of the polymer: wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom and an alkyl group, and R2 represents a phenyl group, a carboxyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group or a carboxamide group.

    Provided are a method of producing a compound having a colorant structure suitable for a pigment dispersant, and a pigment dispersant, a pigment composition, a pigment dispersion, and a toner each containing the compound. The production method is a method of producing a compound in which a polymer portion and a colorant portion are bonded to each other through a linking group, the method including the steps of: (a) polymerizing a vinyl-based polymerizable monomer represented by the formula (A) with a radical initiator having a protective group by living radical polymerization to provide a polymer having the protective group at a terminal thereof; (b) hydrolyzing the protective group of the polymer having the protective group at a terminal thereof obtained by the step (a) to deprotect the polymer; and (c) bonding the deprotected polymer obtained by the step (b) and a colorant to each other through a covalent bond.

    In this method, an oligonucleotide is prepared by using, as a synthesis unit, a novel nucleoside monomer compound represented by formula (I) [wherein X, R 1 , Y, Base, Z, Ar, R 2 , R 3 and n are each as defined in Claim 1 ]. The novel nucleoside monomer compound is a nucleoside, the base moiety of which is substituted with an aromatic-hydrocarbon-ring-carbonyl or -thiocarbonyl group having at least one hydrophobic group. The method cars dispense with columm-chromalographic purification in every reaction, and enables base elongation not only in the 3′-direction but also in the 5′-direction, thus attaining efficient liquid-phase mass synthesis of an oligonucleotide.
