The ring-closingmetathesis (RCM) of bis(2-vinylphenyl)silanes in the presence of the second-generation Hoveyda–Grubbs catalyst in toluene at 100 °C afforded dibenzo[b,f]silepines in excellent yields. Other dibenzoheteropines of group 13–16 elements were also prepared via the RCM of the corresponding heteroatom-tethered dienes.

extended π‐electron molecules contain bulky substituents that shield the vacant boron p orbitals and allow synthetic manipulation and purification under ambient conditions. These borepin‐containing compounds (see picture; Mes*=1,3,5‐tris(tert‐butyl)phenyl; B orange, C gray) display reversible cathodic electrochemistry and can be viewed as n‐type analogues to bent acene hydrocarbons.

reversible colorimetric "turn off/turn on" properties in solution. Notably, this is the first report of thermochromism in these cationic species. This property, which is mediated by an intermolecular boron-oxygenbond equilibrium, was examined in detail by X-ray crystallography, variable temperature-UV/Vis absorption spectroscopy (VT-UV/Vis), and density functional theory (DFT).
