Excess aldosterone production and signaling are primary contributors to numerous cardiovascular disorders including primary aldosteronism and resistant hypertension. Recently, inhibition of aldosterone synthesis via the enzyme aldosteronesynthase (CYP11B2) has been pursued to ameliorate the negative effects of elevated aldosterone. The invention involves compounds of structural Formula (I) and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. The compounds of the invention are effective at selectively inhibiting CYP11B2, and are therefore useful for the treatment or prophylaxis of disorders that are associated with elevated aldosterone levels, including, but not limited to, hypertension and heart failure.
