The indigoid dyes, thioindigo (TI), N,N'-diacetylindigo, (NDI) and oxalylindigo (OI), all undergo reduction upon irradiation of the dyes in the presence of electrondonors such as triethylamine (TEA) or N-benzyl-1,4-dihydronicotinamide (BNAH). To reveal the influence exerted by solvation on the physicochemical processes involving vat dyes, the thermodynamic and kinetic characteristics of the redox processes involving thioindigo red C in water and in mixtures of water with dimethyl sulfoxide and water with ethanol were determined by cyclic voltammetry.
