A practical picolinamide-directed C−H functionalization/alkyne annulation of benzylaminederivatives enabling access to the previously elusive 1,4-dihydroisoquinoline skeleton was developed using molecular O2 as the sole oxidant and Co(OAc)2 as precatalyst.
