  A rhodanine derivative having the formula (I): wherein R is a branched alkyl group having 5 to 7 carbon atoms or a cycloalkylalkyl group having 5 to 7 carbon atoms which may be substituted by a halogen atom; or a nontoxic salt thereof. The rhodanine derivatives (I) and their nontoxic salts have excellent aldose reductase inhibiting activity and low toxicity, and therefore can be used as therapeutic agent for diabetic complications.
