    A fluoroacrylic polymer having a lubricating effect, which comprises at least one kind selected from units derived from a fluoroalkyl acrylate and units derived from a fluoroalkyl methacrylate as a part or all of structural units and a reducing viscosity ηSp/C not higher than 2 as measured at 25°C with respect to a solution of 0.1 g of the polymer in 100 ml of chloroform. The fluoroacrylic polymer is incorporated into a thermoplastic resin for rendering an excellent lubricating property thereto.

    Copolymers of at least three monomer units selected from the group consisting of fluorinated acrylic (methacrylic) monomers, triorganosilylacrylic (e.g. trimethylsilyl methacrylate) monomers and acrylic monomers not containing an organosilyl moiety, (e.g. methyl methacrylate) and optionally containing from 0-5 weight percent of a cross-linking agent are novel compositions useful as polymeric binders in long life marine antifoulant coatings. The erosion rate and resistance to cracking of the copolymer of the present invention when used as a binder in a marine antifoulant paint is controlled by adjusting the proportions of each monomer and the amount of crosslinking agent in the copolymer of the present invention

    An object of the present invention is to provide a binder resin composition which exhibits excellent adhesion to the negative electrode current collector and an excellent resistance to liquid electrolyte-induced swelling, and which provides an electrode having excellent flexibility and plasticity. Additional objects of the present invention are to provide, through the use of this binder resin composition, an electrode for nonaqueous electrolyte energy devices and a nonaqueous electrolyte energy device, which exhibit a high capacity as well as a smaller capacity fading during charge-discharge cycling. A binder resin composition for a nonaqueous electrolyte energy device electrode comprises a copolymer that contains a repeat unit derived from a nitrile group-containing monomer; a repeat unit derived from a monomer represented by Formula (I) (wherein R 1 is H or CH 3 ; R 2 is H or monovalent hydrocarbonyl group; and n is an integer from 1 to 50) and/or a repeat unit derived from a monomer represented by Formula (II) (wherein R 3 is H or CH 3 and R 4 is hydrogen or C 4-100 alkyl); and optionally a repeat unit derived from a carboxyl group-containing monomer.

    Hair care products represent a world-wide multi-billion dollar industry. Pre-formed polymers are commonly used in a variety of hair care products including shampoos, conditioners, gels, and hair sprays. The present invention provides technology for polymerizing monomers on hair in situ to produce desired hair characteristics. This eliminates the solubility and application issues found with some polymers. The polymerization of monomers on hair is typically initiated using a thermal or photoinitiatied free radical initiator. In certain embodiments, the monomers are fluorinated thereby producing a fluorinated polymer on the hair upon polymerization. The invention provides monomers, initiators, methods, and kits for use in treating hair with polymers.
