    Association constants of organic cations and anions with different charge separations, rigidity and shapes have been studied and have been compared with association constants of inorganic cations with the organic anions and also with the association constants of inorganic ions. Bjerrum's theory of ion-pair formation is applicable to spherical inorganic ions but not to ions which have anisotropic charge

    The present invention pertains to absorbent polymer composition comprising A) one or more sulfonated substantially random interpolymers comprising repeating units derived from; a) ethylene and/or one or more alpha olefins; b) one or more sulfonated vinyl or vinylidene aromatic monomers; c) one or more vinyl or vinylidene aromatic monomers, or a combination of one or more vinyl or vinylidene aromatic monomers and one or more sterically hindered aliphatic or cycloaliphatic vinyl or vinylidene monomers; and optionally, B) one or more polymers other than said sulfonated substantially random interpolymer. Uses of the compositions include the preparation of absorbent foams, fibers films and membranes for the preparation of absorbent articles for personal hygiene. These include diapers, sanitary napkins adult incontinence pads, and highly absorbent wipes, and dust pickups.

    There is disclosed a polyester film suitable for use in magnetic tapes having the characteristics represented by the following equations: ##EQU1## wherein N.sub.1 is the number of peaks of surface projections per millimeter; h is the average height in .mu.m of the surface projections; .theta. is the average steepness in degree of the surface projections; H.sup.2 is the mean square height in .mu.m.sup.2 of the surface projections; and n is the average refractive index.

    A biaxially oriented polyester film formed from an intimate mixture comprising (1) an aromatic polyester, and (2) 0.01 to 4% by weight, based on the aromatic polyester, of spherical fine particles of silica having (a) an average particle diameter of 0.05 to 4 .mu.m, (b) a particle diameter ratio, defined by the ratio of maximum diameter of minimum diameter, of from 1.0 to 1.2, and (c) a relative standard deviation (.sigma.) of particle size, of up to 0.5. A biaxially oriented polyester film formed from an intimate mixture comprising (1) an aromatic polyester, (2) 0.005 to 3% by weight, based on the aromatic polyester, of spherical fine particles of silica having the same properties as the above-mentioned (a), (b) and (c), and (3) 0.005 to 3% by weight, based on the aromatic polyester, of inert fine particles having an average particle diameter of 0.01 to 3 .mu.m and not exceeding the average particle diameter of the spherical fine particles of silica. The biaxially oriented films are useful for a magnetic recording medium.

    A polyester film is disclosed which comprises (a) a polyester mainly consisting of polyethylene terephthalate which includes first inert particles being precipitated in the polyester-forming reaction system and having an average particle diameter of 1 to 3 microns and which shows a solution haze of 25 to 75% and (b) an additive amount of second inert substance particles which are added to said polyester (a) insoluble in said polyester (a), inert to the polyester-forming reaction and have an average particle diameter of 1 to 5 microns. The film is useful as a base of a magnetic tape.
