Reported is the stereospecific cross‐coupling of anomeric stannanes with symmetrical diselenides, resulting in the synthesis of selenoglycosides with exclusive anomeric control. The reaction proceeds without the need for directing groups and is compatible with free hydroxy groups as demonstrated in the preparation of glycoconjugates derived from mono‐, di‐, and trisaccharides and peptides (35 examples)

The known oxidation of mono-substituted hydrazones by benzeneseleninicanhydride has been studied using 77Se and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The intermediates in the reaction have been identified. Good evidence that certain steps in these reactions are radical in character has been secured.

The reaction of the dinuclear organometallic complexes [CpRu(CO)2]2, [CpMo(CO)3]2 and [Cp(OC)2RuMo(CO)3Cp] with diphenyl dichalcogenides proceeded under visible light irradiation, via photocleavage of the metal-metal bond. Measurements of the reaction rates point to a preference of the organoruthenium radical for sulfur, and the organomolybdenum radical for selenium.
