Simplified Model for the Operation of Chilled Water Cooling Coils Under Nonnominal Conditions

This study presents a cooling coil model for calculating energy consumption in air-conditioned buildings that has a minimal number of inputs. The model accurately determines the cooling energy rate and dehumidification energy rate tinder nonnominal conditions, and takes into account operation tinder variable air and water flows. In this manner, the model enhances the simplified ASHRAE Toolkit model without requiring more input data. The main assumptions are justified considering the common existing configurations of cooling coils in the air-conditioning industry. The parameters of the model are identified from only one nominal rating point. The model has been validated on a VAV facility with an average deviation of 5% for total energy rate. Errors are mainly due to the assumption that the coil is either completely wet or dry even if the surface is partially wet.

A series of organoselenium compounds was investigated as activators of hydrogen peroxide in the Baeyer-Villiger oxidation. As a result, a convenient and cheap method for transformation of aromatic aldehydes, having polycondensed ring systems or electron-donating substituents, and polymethoxy derivatives of acetophenone, into phenols was elaborated. This method utilizes hydrogen peroxide activated by areneseleninic acids, as oxidizing agent.

A redox reaction of trichloromethylarenes with pyridines results in respective N-(α-chloroarylmethyl)-substituted pyridinium chlorides which give on hydrolysis aromatic aldehydes and 4-chloropyridines or 1,4′-bipyridinium salts.
A preparation, comprising a mixture of dibenzoyl peroxides where the mixture of dibenzoyl peroxides contains 50 to 99.7 mole % of a symmetric dibenzoyl peroxide and 0.3 to 50 mole % asymmetric dibenzoyl peroxides, shows a reduced decomposition temperature of the peroxides compared to the symmetric dibenzoyl peroxide and is suitable for hot cross-linking silicone rubber. The preparation can be produced by reacting a mixture containing a first benzoyl chloride and a second benzoyl chloride that is different therefrom with hydrogen peroxide, wherein the mixture of benzoyl chlorides contains 70 to 99.7 mole % of the first benzoyl chloride and 0.3 to 30 mole % of the second benzoyl chloride.
