Proline triflate was found to catalyse efficiently the one-pot synthesis of 2H-pyranotetrahydroquinolines from aryl imines, and 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran with high stereoselectivity. The aryl imines were formed in situ from aromatic amines and arylaldehydes.

Anhydrous indium trichloride is found to catalyze the reaction of Schiff'sbasesderivedfromsubstitutedanilines with 3-chloro-1H-indole-2-carboxaldehyde and 3-chlorobenzo[b]thiophene-2-carboxaldehyde which resulted in new route to indolyl and benzo[b]thienyl imines. These imines reacted with cyclopentadiene and 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran to afford new quinoline derivatives in good yields.
