The fast (15 min) PASE-'solvent-free' and 'on-solvent' multicomponentreactions of isatins, malononitrile and bicyclicCH-acids catalyzed by sodium acetate result in efficient formation of substituted spiro-oxindoles in 90– 98% yields.
