The Heck reaction of alkylated 2-(trimethylsilyl)ethanesulfonyl (SES)-protected β-amino esters provides benzazepines in good yields. Good selectivity towards cyclisation was obtained when the reaction was performed in PEG 3400 as the solvent under microwave activation.
