A series of bis(benzylthio)- and bis(allylthio)-2,2-bis(dimethylphenylsilyl) ethenes has been obtained by the reaction of (PhMe2Si)3CLi and CS2 with benzyl and allyl bromides. A series of new 2-aryl-1,1-bis(trimethylsilyl)ethenes containing ortho-, meta-, and para-substituted aryl or heteroaryl groups has been efficiently synthesized using an improved two-step approach based on a silylative coupling cyclization-Heck coupling/Grignard reaction sequence. The crystal structure of the first 1,1-bis(trimethylsilyl)alk-1-ene containing a heteroaryl group is reported.
