The optically active cyclopropane compound includes a compound which exhibits a ferroelectric liquid crystalline charac­teristic, and a compound which does not exhibit a ferroelectric liquid characteristic when used alone, but, can be used as a constituent of a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition.

    The present invention relates to a release liner composition in which the adhesion of silicone has been improved between a silicone coating and a surface treating layer and so silicone rub-off prevented. The improvement of adhesion is based on a polymeric surface treating agent structure comprising a moiety or moieties that are compatible with a substrate and/or a coating on the surface of the substrate, and a moiety or moieties that are reactive or at least compatible with the silicone coating. The present invention also relates to a base material and a method of producing a base material, and a surface treating agent for a base material and a use of a surface treating agent.

    The invention relates to a base material for use for a release liner, to a method for producing a base material suitable for use for a release liner and a release liner comprising such base material, as well as to a use of a surface treating agent for improving the adhesion between silicone coating and a paper substrate for a release liner. By forming a surface treating agent comprising a functionalized polymer comprising functional groups comprising a vinyl group and spreading the surface treating agent on a surface of a paper substrate, a base material comprising a surface treating layer can be formed, the surface treating layer containing the vinylic group being capable of forming covalent bonding at an interface between a silicone coating and the surface treating layer, wherein the functionalized polymer comprises chains capable of remaining on the surface of the paper substrate.
