Compatible blends of poly(phenylene ether) resins and polyester resins are provided comprising electrophile-containing poly(phenylene ether) resins, polyester resins and an impact modifier mixture comprising a functionalized polyolefin-based resin and an elastomeric block copolymer to afford articles having good impact ductility and tensile properties. The compositions may further comprise reinforcing agents, flame retardants, and flow promoters. Articles made from the compositions are useful for automotive components.

Thermoplastic compositions exhibiting enhanced melt stability are provided. The compositions contain a blend of resins and an organosulfate salt. The resin blends are preferably selected from (a) a blend of a polyester resin, such as polybutylene terephthalate, and aromatic polycarbonate resin, and (b) a blend of a low molecular weight polyester resin and a high molecular weight polyester resin. The compositions exhibit enhanced retentions of cystallinity and related properties, during melt processing.
Blends of polyphenylene ether resins and crystalline resins wherein the polyphenylene ether resins have an intrinsic viscosity less than about 0.30 dl/ gm are provided. The blends have increased heat distortion temperatures over compositions containing a polyphenylene ether resin with a greater intrinsic viscosity. The blends may further contain compatibilizing agent, impact modifiers, and reinforcing fillers.

A flame resistant moldable thermoplastic resin composition comprising a thermoplastic resin blend of a polycarbonate resin, a monovinylidene aromatic compound, at least one phosphate flame retardant, and an acid scavenger. The compositions have improved stability against degradation under conditions of high temperature and high humidity.

The invention offers a flame-retardant resin sheet that not only can have a low dielectric constant but also has excellent flexibility, flame retardancy, and thin-film processibility and a flat cable incorporating the sheet. The flame-retardant resin sheet contains a resin constituent; containing polyphenylene ether at a content of 5 mass % or more and 75 mass % or less, a thermoplastic elastomer at a content of 5 mass % or more and 40 mass % or less, and polyolefin at a content of 20 mass % or more and 90 mass % or less; and a phosphorus-based flame retardant, a nitrogen-based flame retardant, or both at 5 to 100 mass parts per 100 mass parts of the resin constituent. A flexible flat cable incorporates the flame-retardant resin sheet as a covering material.
