Process for the preparation of phosphides, characterized in that phosphides of the general formula R14R15PM are prepared by the reaction in liquid ammonia of an alkali metal M with a phosphine of the general formula R13R14R15P, in which general formulae R13 represents a hydrocarbyl group which may or may not be substituted with polar groups and contains a C = C group which is linked to the phosphorus atom via only one aliphatic carbon atom, R14 is an aryl group which may or may not be substituted with polar groups and R15 represents a hydrocarbyl group which may or may not be substituted with polar groups, with the proviso that if R1 contains a C = C group which is linked to the phosphorus atom via only one aliphatic carbon atom, R1 and R1 are similar to one another.
