  The subject invention provides efficient and convenient methods of isolating 9-oxo-lOE, 12E-octadecadienoic acid methyl ester (9-KODE methyl ester) from C. versicolor. In addition, the subject invention provides therapeutic uses of Coriolusversicolor extracts, biologically-active chemical substituents isolated from C. versicolor, as well as 9-KODE methyl ester and related compounds. In a preferred embodiment, the subject invention can be used to inhibit the metastatic spread of cancer cells.
