Solvent-free Friedel–Crafts acylation of aromatic compounds with carboxylic acids in the presence of trifluoroacetic anhydride and aluminum dodecatungstophosphate
stable and non-hygroscopic aluminum dodecatungstophosphate (AlPW12O40), was found to be an effective catalyst (3 mol%) for the solvent-free Friedel–Crafts acylation of aromaticcompounds with carboxylic acids in the presence of trifluoroacetic anhydride under mild reaction conditions.

Novel access to 1,4-benzodiazepin-2-ones via the Buchwald reaction and application to the synthesis of novel heterocyclics
A new two step strategy for the preparation of 1,4-benzodiazepin-2-ones has been developed starting from the 2-halogenobenzophenone under Buchwald conditions (Pd(OAc)(2), XantPhos, Cs2CO3, dioxane 100 degrees C). This strategy has been extended to two 2-halogeno-3-benzoyl-azines (pyridines, pyridazines). (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Pharmacophoric comparison between papaverine and tofisopam led to identify three new series of micro- to sub-micromolar inhibitors of phosphodiesterase-4, including 7,8-dialkoxy-2,3-benzodiazepin-4-one derivatives, 7,8-dialkoxy-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one derivatives, and dialkoxybenzophenone derivatives.
