  Addition of a weak organic base is shown to increase the rate of photochemical deconjugation of β-alkyl-α,β-unsaturated esters, thus extending the synthetic utility of this reaction; alteration of the distribution of products in the photochemical deconjugation of non-symmetrically substituted β,β-dialkyl-α,β-unsaturated esters by addition of base is also demonstrated.
