  Die Erfindung betrifft ein neues Verfahren zur Herstellung von 2-Methoxybenzanthronen ausgehend von 1-Aminoanthrachinonen, das sich dadurch auszeichnet, dass durch Anwendung eines speziellen Reaktionsmediums, nämlich eines Dimethylalkanphosphonats, das zugleich Methylierungsmittel in einer der Reaktionsstufen ist, die Reaktion von Anfang bis zum Ende nach dem Prinzip der Eintopfreaktion d.h. ohne Isolierung von Zwischenstufen durchgeführt wird. Die nach diesem Verfahren erhaltenen 2-Methoxybenzanthrone sind wichtige Küpenfarbstoffzwischenprodukte.
