N-Benzyl-2-carboxy-2-deoxypento and hexopyranosylaminolactams readily available via addition of trichloroacetyl isocyanate to substituted glycals, were transformed into enantiomerically pure N-benzyl-4-alkoxy-3-hydroxymethylazetidinones-2.
