Vacuum Gas/Solid<i>N</i>-Chlorination: Preparative Scale Synthesis of Volatile<i>N</i>-Chloramines

A simple method for the preparative scale synthesis of volatile chloramines free from impurities starting from the corresponding primary or secondary amine using N-chlorosuccinimide as chlorinating agent is described.
1-Boraadamantane (I) reacts with Et2NCl, NH2OSO3H or 2,4-(NO2)2C6H3ONH2 to form the 7-diethylaminomethyl- or 7-aminomethyl derivatives of 3-borabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane containing Cl, SO3H or 2,4-(NO2)2C6H3O groups at the 3 position. Oxidation of the 7-aminomethyl derivative affords cis-1,3-di(hydroxymethyl)-5-aminomethylcyclohexane. I reacts with AlkNCl2 to form N-alkyl-3-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonanes with
