    The present invention relates to the field of synthesizing and biologically evaluating of a novel class of carbohydrate-based vaccines. The new vaccines consist of a multi-modular structure which allows applying the vaccine to a whole variety of pathogenes. This method allows preparing vaccines against all pathogens expressing immunogenic carbohydrate antigens. As conjugation of antigenic carbohydrates to proteins is not required the conjugate vaccine is particularly heat stable. No refrigeration is required, a major drawback of protein-based vaccines.

    The invention relates to novel cross-linkable monomers that may be polymerized with ethylenically unsaturated comonomers to form cross-linkable copolymers. Said copolymers may particularly be used in the form of aqueous dispersions as formaldehyde-free adhesives or as coatings with good water resistance.     A pressure sensitive adhesive composition prepared from an organic solvent solution of an interpolymer, the interpolymer containing: i) at least about 80% by weight of at least one alkyl ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid containing 2 to 18 carbon atoms in the alkyl group; or a vinyl ester of an C₂-C₁₀ alkanoic acid or combination thereof; ii) 1 to 20% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer of the general formula: where R₁ is H or CH₃ with the proviso that (a) when X is NH and R₂ is H, R₃ is or O-R₅ ; (b) when X is NH and R₂ is OH; R₃ is and (c) when X is O, R₂ is H and R₃ is where in (a), (b) and (c), R₄ is C₁-C₄ alkyl or (CH₂)n and n is 2-4 and R₅ is H or C₁-C₄ alkyl; and iii) 0 to 10% by weight of a hydroxyl containing monomer.
