Highly Efficient DMSO‐Promoted α‐Hydrolysis of α‐Halohydroxamates under Mild Conditions

A novel and efficient method for the nucleophilic α‐hydrolysis of α‐halohydroxamates under metal‐free conditions was achieved. The simple and readily available dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) was used as a catalyst, while water served as the nucleophile and oxygen source. N‐Benzyloxy‐2‐hydroxycarbonamide 1 reagieren mit Oxalylchlorid in Abhängigkeit von der Substitution an C‐2 entweder zu 4‐Benzyloxy‐2,3,5‐morpholintrionen 5 und 3‐Benzyloxy‐2,4‐oxazolidindionen 3 oder ausschließlich zu dem Heterocyclus 5. Die katalytische Hydrierung von 5 ergibt die N‐Hydroxyimide 8.
